On October 27, 2005, the Cyber Park of Santo Domingo announced that it is creating a high technology investment fund. The Cyber Park will invest in firms that help expand the country’s high technology knowledge and talent base. The Fund will provide equity infusion into firms involved in various high technology sectors.
“We are very excited about the establishment of this new investment fund. The Dominican Republic boasts several competitive advantages in terms of talent, costs and geographic location. The Fund will provide needed capital to help innovative Dominican firms launch new products and services to meet a fast changing global market,” said His Excellency, President Leonel Fernandez of the Dominican Republic. “The Fund will also invest in international firms that locate their development operations at the Cyber Park’s facilities. This will encourage the establishment of a regional Dominican high technology corridor,” said President Fernandez.
Mr. Eddy Martinez, President of the Board of Directors for the Cyber Park observed- “We will target firms for investment in the software development, information technology, telecommunications, design, multi-media and manufacturing sectors. Our goal is to create a win-win scenario- a good return for the Cyber Park’s shareholders as well as expanding the country’s participation in the global high technology economy.” |
